My new cloud of witnesses, my new communion of saints is the students, the alumni, the staff of Xavier University.  This weekend was my deepest induction into the community thus far, in the form of a weekend retreat, Ignatian style, with mostly upperclass students.

Friday night, I packed the toddler into the backseat and trekked out to Milford, a part of the Cincinnati area that I barely knew existed (turns out it is a charming river town). She clung to me as we entered the swarm of thirty-five students, but settled in with markers and some coloring buddies as they filled out name tags.  Not sure what to do during the giant, circled up introductions…
